Gunfight and Arrests in Chereponi District after Installation of New Chief

According to reports, a joint operation by the police and military resulted in the arrest of ten individuals on Thursday, February 23rd. The operation was in response to a gunfight between two opposing factions in Wenchiki, located in the Chereponi District. The violence was sparked by the installation of a new Nagbandi chief.

 

It has been reported that between two and five individuals lost their lives during the exchange of fire, including a 16-year-old girl and a security officer. Three people were injured and are currently receiving medical attention at the Chereponi District Hospital. As a result of the violence, health officials and teachers in Wenchiki have fled the area and are seeking shelter at the district police station.

 

In response to the situation, security measures have been increased by the Chereponi District Security Council (DISEC), and there are indications that the situation is now under control.
