Gov’t assures reliable power supply for Kumasi by June 5
The Government has assured residents of the Greater Kumasi area in the Ashanti Region that recent power outages will soon ease, with ongoing upgrades to key sub-transmission infrastructure expected to be completed by Friday, June 5, 2026.
Speaking on Day 2 of the Ghana–UK Investment Summit in London, on June 2, the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, said the challenges in Kumasi stemmed from weak infrastructure that led to persistent localised load shedding, even when national power supply remained stable.
“When we assumed office, we realised there was what you call localised load shedding in Kumasi. The infrastructure was so weak that even when you have a reliable supply of power, the people of Kumasi keep suffering,” he explained.
