Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has hinted at a new flagship economic policy, dubbed the “New Economy”, which is expected to become the government’s next major strategy focused on development and job creation.

The announcement follows Ghana’s recent staff-level agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on the sixth review of the country’s IMF-supported programme, alongside discussions on transitioning to a Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI) after the current bailout ends.

Speaking at a joint press briefing with the IMF in Accra, Dr. Forson said the country has largely achieved macroeconomic stability and is now preparing to pivot towards growth and employment creation.

“Clearly, the stability is done. It’s been confirmed even by the Fund. We’ve built significant resilience through reforms, and now it’s time to develop and create jobs,” he stated.

While details remain limited, Dr. Forson revealed that the New Economy framework will soon be formally unveiled to the public.

“In the coming days, we’ll be announcing our flagship design called the New Economy, where we’ll focus on areas of development and job creation, and this will be made known to the people of Ghana,” he explained.

The policy is expected to guide Ghana’s post-IMF economic direction, shifting from fiscal consolidation and stabilisation to strategies that stimulate investment, industrial growth, and sustainable employment, while maintaining reform credibility under the PCI framework.
