Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has assured that Parliament will thoroughly examine claims surrounding the reported $1.7 billion GoldBod losses, stressing that the House will determine whether the amount represents a loss or operational cost.
The Speaker made the remarks as concerns continue to grow over the financial activities of the Ghana Gold Board.
According to Mr Bagbin, Parliament will not rely on claims from either side but will go through the available information to establish the facts.
The debate follows allegations and counterclaims over figures linked to GoldBod’s operations, with some stakeholders demanding accountability and transparency.
While critics have raised concerns about possible financial losses, others have argued that the figures must be properly explained and placed within the context of the gold trading programme.
Speaker Bagbin said the House has a responsibility to examine the matter carefully and provide clarity to the Ghanaian public.
