The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) has issued an impact-based weather alert for parts of northern Ghana, warning of thunderstorms, strong winds, and rainfall on Thursday, May 21, 2026.
According to GMet, a rainstorm currently forming over northern Benin and Burkina Faso is expected to affect northern Ghana from the morning through early afternoon. Strong gusty winds are anticipated ahead of the storm, followed by thunderstorms and varying intensities of rainfall.
Communities likely to be affected include Tumu, Wa, Yala, Bolgatanga, Bawku, Diari, Goyiri, Kapitinga, and surrounding areas. GMet notes that the highest risk will occur during the first two hours of the event, with conditions gradually easing later in the day.
The agency is urging residents to remain vigilant, secure loose items, avoid taking shelter under trees during storms, and exercise caution while traveling.
