Tom Ilube, the founder of the African Science Academy, has declared that Ghana is the most convenient country to work in Africa.
In an interview with Nana Yaa Mensah on Asaase 99.5 in Accra, Ilube stated that he sometimes finds it bewildering when Ghanaians complain about things.
As a technology entrepreneur based in the UK, Ilube relies on people to run his projects in Ghana. He emphasized the importance of working in a system that is efficient and reliable, hence his decision to operate in Ghana.
He noted that when he carried out summer schools in various African countries, he found Ghana to be the most accessible, enabling him to get things done and make things happen.
He also expressed surprise when Ghanaians complained about the system, stating that they have not attempted to work in other countries. In his view, Ghana works efficiently, and he has been able to create a school and raise funds that he believes he could not do in other countries.
Ilube’s passion for promoting Africa’s Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM) skills base is evident. He established the African Science Academy in Ghana in 2016, providing education to over 100 talented young women from 14 African countries.
The all-girls science and maths senior school is the first of its kind in Africa and receives approximately 1,000 applications annually from across Africa for only 50 places in its intensive study course.
