The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a stern warning to heads of schools, teachers, and examination supervisors to maintain a malpractice-free environment as Senior High School students across the country prepare to sit for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), starting Wednesday, May 13.
Speaking to the media ahead of the exams, GES Director-General, Prof. Ernest Kofi Dickson, revealed that all supervisors and teachers previously found guilty of examination malpractice have been barred from participating in this year’s examination process.
He noted that the 2026 WASSCE has recorded a 10% increase in candidates compared to the 2025 examinations. Expressing concern over recurring cases of cheating, Prof. Dickson urged school heads and supervisors to ensure a credible, transparent, and cheating-free examination nationwide.
He emphasized that any student caught engaging in examination malpractice would face severe consequences, including cancellation of their entire results.
GES also confirmed it would collaborate closely with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and security agencies to guarantee a smooth, peaceful, and credible examination process across the country, reiterating its zero-tolerance stance on cheating.
