The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced plans to evacuate the first batch of 300 Ghanaians from South Africa via a special chartered flight scheduled for Thursday, May 21.

The evacuation will depart from O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg at 5:00 a.m., following recent xenophobic attacks targeting foreign nationals in the country and concerns for the safety of Ghanaians living there.

The Ministry emphasized that the operation will be fully funded by the Government of Ghana and will be provided free of charge to all citizens being transported home.

Ghanaians seeking more information or assistance regarding the evacuation have been advised to contact Ghana’s High Commission in Pretoria for guidance and coordination.
