A fire erupted at the Ghana Digital Terrestrial Transmission Centre in Brekuso, located in the Eastern Region, on March 28, 2026. The blaze destroyed a container containing solar inverter batteries, with the fire quickly escalating due to the presence of lithium batteries, known for their flammability. The situation prompted an urgent response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
Emergency responders were swiftly deployed to the scene and managed to contain the fire before it spread to nearby structures, preventing further damage. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported during the incident, though the destruction of the equipment is significant.
As of now, the cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations are underway. The GNFS has assured that they are thoroughly looking into the circumstances surrounding the outbreak to determine its origin.
