National Communications Officer of National Democratic Congress(NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has condemned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for allegedly distributing marijuana(wee) to some residents of Ejisu as part of a scheme to buy votes during the recently-held parliamentary byelection in Ejisu.

He stressed that the mindless distribution of an illicit and harmful product by the NPP to induce voters even in the stronghold portrayed the NPP’s unprecedented desperation and ought to be condemned by all reasonable, right-thinking Ghanaians.

“How can you be going for an election in your stronghold? You’re supposed to have the interest, the health, the life, the interest of the heart. But because of power, the desperation for power, you go distributing marijuana, illicit drugs?” Sammy Gyamfi wondered on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana Show.

He insisted that claims of the NPP distributing marijuana to residents to get them to vote for the NPP’s parliamentary candidate in the by-election have been corroborated by residents who were offered or saw assigns of the NPP giving marijuana to people in the Constituency.

Mr Gyamfi is certain that the distribution of an illicit drug to voters had never happened in the history of Ghana until the NPP engaged in it in Eljisu. He denounced the action as a deliberate attempt by the NPP to jeopardise the lives of the youth.
