The Acting Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Ing. Kwame Kpekpena, has issued a heartfelt apology to Ghanaians for the recent intermittent power outages that have affected businesses and households across the country.

His apology comes amid ongoing power fluctuations that have caused significant inconvenience, and in some cases, damage to both homes and commercial activities.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Monday, April 20, Ing. Kpekpena reassured the public that the company is actively addressing the issues affecting the power distribution system.

“To all Ghanaians who have experienced extended outages, we sincerely apologize. We have heard your concerns, and resolving these reliability issues is now our top priority,” he stated.

He acknowledged that ECG’s communication and response times had fallen short of expectations, describing this as unacceptable.

“We recognize that in some cases, our communication and response times have not met your expectations. This is something we are committed to improving. We have already put measures in place to address these issues, including enhancing operational performance, speeding up response times, and improving customer engagement,” he explained.

Ing. Kpekpena also emphasized that ECG is dedicating the necessary resources to implement the proposed solutions and will keep the public informed about the progress.

“The challenges we face are complex and, in some cases, have arisen from years of underinvestment, leading to outages and low voltage. However, we are not standing still. We have a detailed plan, a set schedule, and we are fully committed to executing it,” he said.

He concluded by reaffirming ECG’s commitment to transparency and welcomed the media’s role in holding the company accountable as it works to improve the reliability of the power supply.
