Dormaa Ahenkro: Road Traffic Accidents on the rise, causing deformities and casualties – DPH reveals

The Dormaa Ahenkro Presbyterian Hospital has issued a disconcerting notice concerning road traffic accidents in and around Dormaa Ahenkro, which are claiming lives and causing deformities among the youth.

During a studio discussion, Mr. Emmanuel Godwin Acquah, head of the Emergency Unit at the Dormaa Ahenkro Presbyterian Hospital, remarked that the majority of road accidents reported to the facility involve motorbikes, followed by tricycles (Pragya and Motor King), and then vehicles. He stated that accidents involving motorbikes are particularly alarming and perilous due to the reckless speeding practices among riders.

Mr. Emmanuel Godwin Acquah disclosed that most of the drivers and riders involved in accidents are males aged 20 to 28, with a few being females. He stated that from the beginning of 2025 to date, only 5 females have been reported to the hospital due to road accidents.

He attributed the rising cases of accidents among the youth to drug abuse and alcoholism, emphasizing that most of the drivers and riders involved in accidents, after thorough inspection before medication, are found with red opioids, marijuana toffees, and other drugs that influence their activities, thereby causing accidents that lead to deformities and other casualties.
