Hundreds of residents from Dome-Kwabenya, Comet, Berekuso, Agyementi and Kitase have embarked on a peaceful demonstration to demand urgent action on the long-standing poor condition of the Dome-Kwabenya–Berekuso–Kitase Road.
The protest, organised by the Dome-Kwabenya–Kitase Road Stakeholders Committee, is aimed at drawing attention to the challenges residents, commuters, transport operators and businesses face due to the deteriorating state of the road.
According to the demonstrators, several attempts to engage authorities over the years have yielded little results, leaving them with no option but to take to the streets to demand immediate rehabilitation.
One resident told Citi News that the bad state of the road has made movement difficult and disrupted daily activities.
“We are pleading with the government to come to our aid and fix our roads. This road has not seen proper rehabilitation for the past 20 years,” the resident said.
The protesters also expressed concerns about the health effects of the poor road conditions, particularly the dust produced by vehicles, which they say affects residents’ well-being.
They are therefore calling on the government and relevant agencies to prioritise the completion and rehabilitation of the road to improve transportation, reduce hardships and boost economic activities in the affected communities.
