CETAG Declares Indefinite Strike Starting January 2

The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has declared an indefinite strike, effective Thursday, January 2, 2025. This decision was announced after an Emergency National Council meeting held on December 30, 2024.

CETAG’s action follows a lack of response from the National Labour Commission (NLC) to their previous strike notices issued on September 26 and December 23, 2024. The association expressed frustration over the government’s failure to honor signed agreements and resolve issues related to a compulsory arbitration award issued by the NLC on May 2, 2023.

In a statement issued on December 31, 2024, CETAG’s National Council emphasized that its members would not carry out any official duties, including teaching or supervising projects, until all outstanding payments are fully settled. This decision aligns with Section 159 of the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651).

The indefinite strike is expected to disrupt academic activities across colleges of education nationwide, prompting calls for swift intervention to address the concerns raised by CETAG.
