Some chiefs in the Gomoa West Constituency of the Central Region have appealed to delegates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to elect renowned broadcaster Godbrain Kwadwo Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, as the party’s parliamentary candidate for the 2028 general elections.
The traditional leaders believe Captain Smart has already demonstrated exceptional commitment to the development of the constituency through his self-initiated projects and humanitarian interventions, arguing that failing to present him as the NDC’s candidate could jeopardize the party’s chances of retaining the parliamentary seat.

The appeal was made by the Odikro of Gomoa Denkyira, Nana Kwandam, during the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of an ultra-modern Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) office at Gomoa Denkyira.
The project, facilitated by Captain Smart, is expected to become the first DVLA office in the area, bringing essential services such as vehicle registration, driver’s licence processing, roadworthiness documentation and ownership transfers closer to residents of Gomoa Denkyira and neighbouring communities.
When completed, the facility is expected to save residents both time and transportation costs by eliminating the need to travel to distant towns to access DVLA services.
Addressing the gathering, Nana Kwandam described Captain Smart as a visionary, humble and development-oriented leader who has consistently demonstrated genuine concern for the welfare of the people despite not holding any political office.
According to the chief, Captain Smart has won the admiration and confidence of many residents through his commitment to community development and his readiness to mobilize resources for projects that directly improve the lives of the people.
He noted that Gomoa West has enormous development potential but continues to face challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, youth unemployment, poor road networks and limited public services.
Nana Kwandam stressed that the constituency now requires a leader with fresh ideas, integrity, influence and the ability to attract meaningful development projects.
He therefore appealed to NDC delegates to carefully assess the track record and vision of Captain Smart when the party opens nominations ahead of the 2028 parliamentary elections.
The chief expressed confidence that if Captain Smart secures the NDC’s parliamentary nomination, he would not only retain the seat for the party but also accelerate the pace of development across the constituency.
He further assured Captain Smart of the unwavering support of the chiefs and people of Gomoa West, urging all residents to place the development of the constituency above partisan interests.

Meanwhile, Godbrain Kwadwo Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, reaffirmed his determination to transform Gomoa West through inclusive and people-centred leadership if elected as the NDC parliamentary candidate and subsequently as the Member of Parliament.
He said the constituency deserves improved roads, better educational facilities, accessible healthcare, employment opportunities for the youth, support for farmers, skills training for young people and greater investment in local businesses.
Captain Smart also promised to introduce a monthly financial support package for NDC delegates if elected as the Member of Parliament, explaining that the initiative is intended to appreciate the commitment and sacrifices of party grassroots members.
According to him, many communities within Gomoa West continue to struggle with poor infrastructure and inadequate social amenities despite years of political representation.
He maintained that the time has come for practical leadership focused on delivering measurable development rather than making empty promises.
Captain Smart explained that facilitating the construction of the DVLA office before becoming an MP demonstrates his commitment to serving the people and his ability to leverage his network and influence to attract development projects to the constituency.
He pledged to work closely with chiefs, assembly members, opinion leaders, religious organizations, youth groups, women, development partners and investors to promote sustainable socio-economic development throughout Gomoa West.
Captain Smart therefore appealed to delegates of the National Democratic Congress to entrust him with the party’s parliamentary candidature, assuring them that he possesses the vision, leadership experience and commitment needed to retain the seat for the NDC while significantly improving the living standards of constituents.
