Ghana’s remarkable performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup has been rewarded with a significant rise in the latest FIFA World Rankings, as the Black Stars move up eight places to 65th position globally.
The improvement marks one of the biggest jumps in the latest rankings, with only Norway recording a higher rise after climbing 12 places. For Ghana, the new ranking reflects the progress made by the national team following an impressive campaign on the world stage under head coach Carlos Queiroz.
The Black Stars exceeded expectations at the tournament in North America, advancing from a challenging Group L that included European giants England and Croatia, alongside Panama.
Ghana opened the competition with a hard-fought victory over Panama before holding England to a goalless draw in Boston through a disciplined defensive performance. Although the team suffered a narrow defeat to Croatia in their final group match, the result was enough to secure qualification to the Round of 32 as one of the best third-placed teams.
The Black Stars’ World Cup journey ended after a close contest against Colombia in the knockout stage, but their overall performance earned widespread praise from fans and football analysts for their resilience, organisation, and fighting spirit.
The latest rankings also see Ghana strengthen its position in African football, moving up to 14th on the continent. The progress comes as the team prepares for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and continues its rebuilding process.
Since his appointment, Carlos Queiroz has introduced greater organisation and competitiveness into the squad, helping Ghana compete against some of the world’s top football nations and restore confidence among supporters.
The eight-place rise represents Ghana’s biggest improvement in recent years and highlights the contributions of emerging talents who impressed on the global stage, alongside experienced players who provided leadership during key moments.
Although the Black Stars still have more work to do to reclaim their place among Africa’s elite, the latest FIFA ranking provides a strong indication that the team is moving in the right direction.
With renewed confidence and momentum from their World Cup campaign, Ghana will now focus on upcoming international assignments as they aim to continue climbing the global and continental rankings.
