An aspiring Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Wassa Amenfi East Constituency, Mr. Samuel Mensah, popularly known as A-1, has won the admiration of residents and school authorities after taking swift action to demolish a weak and dangerous section of the fence wall at Wassa Amenfiman Senior High School in Wassa Akropong.
The deteriorated fence wall, which had developed several cracks and was on the verge of collapse, had become a major concern for students, teachers, parents, and residents living around the school.
Many feared that the structure could collapse at any moment, especially during heavy rains and strong winds, potentially causing injuries or loss of life.
Speaking to the media after supervising the demolition exercise, Mr. Mensah explained that he could not sit unconcerned while the lives of students and members of the community remained at risk.
According to him, the fence wall had become a death trap and immediate intervention was necessary to prevent any future disaster.
“I decided to take this step because the safety of our students and teachers must always come first.
We cannot wait for a tragedy to occur before taking action,” he stated.
Mr. Mensah assured the management of Wassa Amenfiman Senior High School and the people of Wassa Akropong that he is committed to supporting efforts to reconstruct the fence wall as soon as possible. He noted that a stronger and more durable structure would be built to enhance security and protect school property.
The aspiring Youth Organizer used the opportunity to highlight some of the development challenges confronting the Wassa Amenfi East Constituency, particularly the poor condition of roads in many communities.
He observed that several roads within the constituency have become virtually unmotorable, making it difficult for farmers to transport their produce to market centers, while traders, commercial drivers, and residents continue to struggle with daily transportation challenges.
Mr. Mensah therefore appealed to the government, the Ministry of Roads and Highways, and other relevant stakeholders to expedite efforts to rehabilitate the road network to improve economic activities and the general well-being of residents.
He, however, commended the Member of Parliament for Wassa Amenfi East, Hon. Nicholas Amankwah, for the interventions he has undertaken to address some of the road challenges.
According to him, the MP has personally hired road construction equipment and machinery to work on some critical roads within the constituency to bring relief to residents.
He lamented that despite the constituency’s rich natural resources and enormous potential, it appears to have lagged behind in terms of infrastructure and socio-economic development.
