A transfer setback has been suffered by Arsenal and Chelsea in their attempts to get Sporting Lisbon’s outstanding player Viktor Gyokeres.
Gyokeres is one of the top targets for the Gunners and Blues, who are desperate for attacking reinforcements during the January transfer window.
But because he enjoys playing in Portugal, the striker has committed to staying with Sporting until the end of the current campaign.
The Swedish international went on to say that he doesn’t “care about any interested parties at the moment”.
“I think it’s a bit like when Sporting came in to sign me,” Gyokeres stated to Record.
“I’m content right now, therefore I don’t give a damn about any potential suitors.
“I’m having a great time here and trying not to think about the world around me.
Big clubs are being discussed, but for the time being this is just news. That is all.
When asked directly if he could guarantee supporters that he would remain at Sporting for the remainder of the season, Gyokeres said, “Yes.” I would like to stay here.”
It will be difficult for Arsenal and Chelsea to get Gyokeres, a former Coventry star, given he has a whopping £87 million release clause.
However, there’s a good reason for it—in 20 games across all competitions this season, the 25-year-old has racked up an incredible 17 goals and eight assists.
The Premier League rivals are also considering other center-forwards, like Victor Osimhen of Napoli and Ivan Toney of Brentford.
But Toney and Osimhen also fetch comparable prices to Gyokeres.
