Annoh-Dompreh Leads Minority MPs on Courtesy Visit to Offinso Traditional Council Ahead of Ashanti Cocoa Farmers’ Tour
Minority Members of Parliament, led by the Minority Chief Whip and MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, on Sunday paid a courtesy call on the Offinsomanhene, Nana Dwamena Akenten II, and the Queenmother, Nana Adwoa Afranewaa III, during the Akwasidae celebration in Offinso, Ashanti Region.
The visit, which was part of preparations for a week-long tour of cocoa-growing communities, aimed to seek the blessings of the traditional leaders ahead of the MPs’ engagement with cocoa farmers. According to the delegation, the tour will allow them to gather firsthand information on the challenges facing cocoa farmers, particularly regarding the recent reduction in producer prices, often referred to by farmers as “cocoa price haircuts.”
The MP’s emphasized that the purpose of the tour was to better understand the farmers’ concerns and to bring these issues to the attention of Parliament. After the tour, they plan to formally brief the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on the challenges raised by the farmers.

In his address, Nana Dwamena Akenten II expressed gratitude for the visit and urged the MP’s to approach the concerns of cocoa farmers with fairness and a national perspective. He also cautioned against excessive partisan politics, stressing the importance of prioritizing the welfare of cocoa farmers for the benefit of the entire country.
This engagement in the Ashanti Region follows a similar initiative undertaken by the Minority in the Eastern Region, where MPs visited cocoa-growing communities to assess the impact of declining producer prices and other challenges facing farmers.
