New Information emerging shows Member of Parliament for Assin Central Kennedy Agyapong was stopped by National Security from screening a video in court in his attempt to prove murder against Ace Investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
The footage allegedly showed the killing of some Chinese Nationals in a mining related operations. It is not clear how the footage related to the investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw.
This revelation came to light following the conclusion of a High Court case between the two celebrated Ghanaians. The court threw out the award-winning journalist who filed a suit against Kennedy Agyapong for GH¢25 million in 2018 for defaming him.
But the court in its ruling on Wednesday, March 15, said the suit lacks merit.
Justice Eric Baah in his ruling held that Anas Aremeyaw Anas failed to prove that Kennedy Agyapong defamed him by airing the documentary – “Who watches the watchman”.The court further held that Agyapong provided sufficient evidence to prove that the plaintiff used the findings of his work to solicit money from persons implicated in the evidence gathered by him.
According to the court, the evidence also proved that those who were able to pay the sums of money demanded by Anas and his associates were excluded from videos that were shown to the public.
The court held the view that what Anas engaged in was not investigative journalism but rather investigative terrorism.
“I find the claims by the plaintiff [Anas Aremeyaw Anas] meritless, and they are hereby dismissed,” Justice Baah ruled.
