The Attorney-General (AG) has opposed an application for bail filed by the former Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
The AG’s office argued that granting bail could pose a risk, citing concerns that Mr. Boasiako may leave the jurisdiction and evade the legal process.
According to the prosecution, the nature of the case and the circumstances surrounding the charges require that the accused remains available to face trial. The State therefore urged the court to reject the bail application.
Counsel for Chairman Wontumi, however, is expected to continue pushing for his release, arguing that he should be granted bail under conditions deemed appropriate by the court.
The court is expected to consider arguments from both sides before making a determination on the bail request.
