Tensions ran high today at the Lekma Assembly as Assembly members voiced their concerns and called on the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Modecai Quarshie, to be held accountable for allegedly abandoning development projects and dismissing over 130 long-serving Internal Generated Fund (IGF) staff. The assembly members staged a protest, demanding urgent action to address the situation.

According to the Assembly members, the MCE’s alleged abandonment of development in Lekma has become a cause for concern, impacting the overall progress and well-being of the constituency. Projects that were expected to uplift the community and enhance the quality of life have allegedly been left unfinished, causing disillusionment among the residents.

Furthermore, the dismissal of more than 130 IGF staff members, who have dedicated over 13 years of service to the Assembly, has aggravated discontent within the community. The sudden termination of these employees has raised questions about job security, fair employment practices, and the welfare of those affected.

Assembly members assert that the MCE’s decision to dismiss these longstanding staff members without proper explanation or due process is unacceptable. They claim that these dedicated individuals played crucial roles in the Assembly’s operations, contributing to the growth and development of the constituency.

In response to these grievances, the Assembly members took direct action by invading the Lekma Assembly premises, seeking immediate attention and accountability from the MCE. Their objective is to ensure that the concerns of the residents are heard, and appropriate measures are taken to address the alleged abandoned development projects and unjust dismissal.

This incident highlights the growing dissatisfaction within the Lekma constituency and raises questions about transparency and effective governance. As the MCE has been called to order by the Assembly members, the community eagerly awaits a response and hopes for a resolution that prioritizes the interests of the constituency and promotes inclusive and responsible leadership.

Efforts to reach the MCE, Modecai Quarshie, for comments regarding the allegations and the protest were unsuccessful at the time of publication. However, the Assembly members remain steadfast in their determination to bring the pressing issues to light and demand accountability from the MCE.
