President John Dramani Mahama has summoned the Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, Ebi Bright, and the Managing Director of TDC Ghana Limited, Courage Makafui Nunekpeku, over an escalating dispute between the two state institutions.
The meeting, scheduled for Monday, August 17, 2026, will also involve the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs and the Minister for Sanitation, Works and Housing.
The move follows a public disagreement between the Tema Metropolitan Assembly and TDC Ghana Limited over a development project at Community 1, Site 3 in Tema.
The dispute intensified on Wednesday, August 12, after the Assembly halted construction works by TDC, citing concerns that the project was being undertaken without the required planning and development permits.
The Assembly also raised concerns from residents, including the alleged removal of trees, demolition of existing structures, and the use of spaces previously reserved for public purposes.
However, the Managing Director of TDC, Courage Nunekpeku, has defended the project, arguing that the company followed the necessary government approval processes before commencing work.
The Tema Mayor, Ebi Bright, insists that all institutions, including state-owned companies, must comply with planning regulations before undertaking developments within the metropolis.
President Mahama’s intervention is expected to help resolve the disagreement and clarify the working relationship between TDC and the Tema Metropolitan Assembly in managing development projects within Tema.
