The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has announced that former Managing Director of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), Asante Berko, is expected to be sentenced on November 10 by a United States federal court after being found guilty by a federal jury.
According to the OSP, Mr Berko faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison following his conviction in a case involving allegations of corruption and financial misconduct.
The former TOR Managing Director was convicted by a US federal jury after prosecutors accused him of engaging in schemes involving bribery and financial transactions linked to his time in the banking sector.
The OSP said the sentencing forms part of ongoing legal proceedings against Mr Berko, who has also been subject to investigations in Ghana.
The anti-corruption agency noted that the development demonstrates the importance of international cooperation in the fight against corruption and financial crimes.
Mr Berko, who previously served as Managing Director of Tema Oil Refinery, has maintained his position in relation to the allegations, while the court process in the United States continues.
The OSP has pledged to continue pursuing corruption-related cases and working with relevant international institutions to ensure accountability.
