The Member of Parliament for Tano North, Dr Gideon Boako, has called for Ghana’s economic recovery efforts to focus on improving the living conditions of citizens rather than relying only on positive economic indicators.
According to the former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s spokesperson, a strong economy should translate into better livelihoods, increased opportunities, and improved welfare for ordinary Ghanaians.
Dr Boako stressed that while economic figures such as growth rates, inflation trends, and currency stability are important, they must be accompanied by tangible benefits that citizens can feel in their daily lives.
He argued that the ultimate measure of economic progress should be the impact on households, including job creation, affordable goods and services, and improved standards of living.
His comments come amid discussions on Ghana’s economic recovery and government’s efforts to address challenges facing the economy.
Dr Boako urged policymakers to ensure that economic reforms and recovery programmes are designed with the needs of citizens at the centre, insisting that statistics alone cannot define the success of an economy.
