The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) is set to resume the trial of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and other accused persons following a Supreme Court ruling that has cleared the way for the continuation of ongoing corruption-related cases.
The development follows the apex court’s decision on issues surrounding the prosecutorial powers of the OSP, which had affected some cases before the courts.
Mr Ofori-Atta, who served as Finance Minister under the previous administration, is facing allegations connected to investigations conducted by the OSP, including matters relating to the Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) revenue assurance contracts.
The OSP, led by Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, had earlier filed charges against Mr Ofori-Atta and other individuals, but legal challenges resulted in delays in the progress of some of the cases.
With the Supreme Court’s latest decision, the anti-corruption office is expected to return to court and continue the legal process.
The OSP has maintained that it remains committed to pursuing cases involving alleged corruption and financial crimes in accordance with the law.
Meanwhile, the accused persons are expected to have their day in court as the judicial process continues.
