President John Dramani Mahama has stated that the most meaningful way to honour the memory of the eight Ghanaians who lost their lives in the line of duty is through responsible leadership and good governance, rather than the construction of physical monuments.
According to the President, true remembrance should go beyond statues and memorial structures to include a commitment by leaders to protect citizens, uphold democratic values, and ensure that such tragedies are not repeated.
Speaking during a commemorative event, President Mahama paid tribute to the eight fallen heroes, describing their sacrifice as a reminder of the duty leaders have to serve the nation with integrity and accountability.
He emphasised that leadership must be guided by humility, justice, and respect for human rights, adding that the country’s institutions must work to protect the lives and freedoms of Ghanaians.
“The greatest memorial we can build for our fallen heroes is not made of stone or metal, but through responsible leadership that protects the people and strengthens our democracy,” he said.
The President also called on Ghanaians to preserve the values for which the fallen heroes sacrificed their lives and to work together towards building a peaceful and united nation.
