The Accra Circuit Court has sentenced Ghanaian TikToker Camilla Alhassan to one year in prison after finding her guilty of charges related to offensive conduct and the publication of false news.

The court delivered the judgement on Thursday, July 16, 2026, following her plea to the charges. The conviction was based on the first two counts brought against her, for which the court imposed a custodial sentence.

The charges stem from allegations that Camilla Alhassan made and circulated claims on social media linking President John Dramani Mahama to alleged ritual activities. The claims attracted public attention and led to legal action against her.

However, the court did not proceed with sentencing on a separate charge of electronic abuse, explaining that it does not have the jurisdiction to determine punishment for that offence. The matter has consequently been referred to a higher court for further proceedings and possible sentencing.

The case highlights growing concerns over the spread of false information and offensive content on social media platforms, with authorities warning users to exercise caution when making public claims about individuals.
