The High Court in Accra has adjourned the EXIM Bank case involving the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, to July 27 to allow plea negotiations between the parties to continue.
The adjournment came after both the prosecution and defence informed the court that discussions were still in progress.
Chairman Wontumi has been charged with allegedly obtaining a GH¢14 million loan under false pretences for a farming project.
According to the prosecution, between 2018 and 2022, Wontumi and Thomas Antwi-Boasiako fraudulently secured GH¢14.3 million from EXIM Bank, using Wontumi Farms Limited as the channel for the transaction.
The charge sheet also alleges that Wontumi submitted a forged receipt to EXIM Bank officials to support an application for an additional GH¢4 million facility.
He is further accused of knowingly benefiting from proceeds of fraud, which forms part of a money laundering charge.
The prosecution claims the alleged actions led to a financial loss exceeding GH¢30 million to EXIM Bank.
The accused persons, through their lawyers, have requested plea negotiations.
When the case was called on Monday, July 6 for an update, the prosecution told the court that discussions were still ongoing, leading to the adjournment of the case to July 27.
