The Central Regional Minister, Hon. Ekow Okyere Eduamoah, has called on pastors, church leaders, and students across the region to champion good sanitation practices and help change the attitudes of Ghanaians toward environmental cleanliness.

According to the Minister, poor sanitation and indiscriminate littering have significantly contributed to the persistent flooding experienced in many parts of the country, particularly during the rainy season.

Speaking at the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Day celebration in Cape Coast, Hon. Eduamoah stressed that churches have a vital role to play in promoting responsible environmental behaviour.

He urged pastors to use their pulpits to educate congregants on the importance of keeping their homes, communities, and public spaces clean.

The Minister noted that sanitation is not only the responsibility of government agencies but a collective duty that requires the commitment of every citizen.

He said blocked drains, indiscriminate dumping of refuse, and poor waste management continue to worsen flooding, leading to the destruction of property and loss of livelihoods.

Addressing students from various Senior High Schools who participated in the event, the Minister encouraged them to become ambassadors of cleanliness by avoiding littering and promoting proper waste disposal both in school and in their communities.

He emphasized that developing good sanitation habits at a young age would help build a more disciplined and environmentally conscious generation.

Hon. Eduamoah further appealed to all Ghanaians to embrace a positive mindset, patriotism, discipline, and responsibility, saying the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Day should inspire citizens to reset their attitudes and contribute meaningfully to national development.

He urged every Ghanaian to understand that keeping the environment clean is an act of patriotism and a practical way of preventing disasters such as floods.
