The Member of Parliament for Binduri, Lawyer Isifu Mamoud, has responded to an urgent call from the people of Yalugu by renovating their primary school after a rainstorm destroyed classrooms in May.
The rainstorm ripped off the zinc roof of the school completely, leaving students and teachers stranded with no classroom for teaching and learning.
Following a distress call from the Assembly Member Ayendago Majeed and the community to the MP, Lawyer Issifu Mahmoud intervened. He renovated the old dilapidated permanent block and constructed new standard classrooms, making the school better than it was before. The school is now ready for use.
Speaking to Atungo Iddrisu Kassim, the Assembly Member for the area Ayendago Abdul Majid thanked the MP for his swift action.
The Assemblyman also expressed concern about the community’s junior high school project. He said the JHS block was awarded in 2015 but remains uncompleted due to delays by the contractor. He noted the abandoned JHS structure was also affected by the same rainstorm.
The Headteacher of the school, Wisdom Mbun, said they had no option but to compel students to return to their old block which was cracking because there was nowhere else for them to learn.
He expressed gratitude to the leadership for their timely intervention.
