Residents of Obakrowa in Ga South Municipality Stage Peaceful Protest Over Deteriorating Hobor–Ashalaja Road

Residents of Obakrowa in the Ga South Municipality have staged a peaceful demonstration to express their profound frustration over the deplorable condition of the Hobor–Ashalaja road.
For years, the stretch has remained in severe disrepair, marred by deep potholes, eroded shoulders, waterlogged craters, and persistent dust during the dry season. Motorists and commuters grapple with frequent vehicle breakdowns, inflated transport fares, and prolonged travel times. Pedestrians, including schoolchildren and traders, are also exposed to heightened risks of accidents and respiratory complications from inhaled dust.

Speaking to some of the protesters, they noted that the peaceful march is a non-violent expression of collective grievance and a direct appeal to government authorities, the Municipal Assembly, and relevant stakeholders to prioritize urgent rehabilitation of the road.

The Saanahene of Obakrowa emphasized that the protest is not politically motivated, but rather a demand for essential infrastructure that underpins livelihoods, education, healthcare access, and economic activity in the community.
He further clarified that construction on the road, which had commenced under the Highways Department, was halted after President John Dramani Mahama cut sod for an expressway project. According to him, the stalled project has since worsened the condition of the road, leaving behind deep potholes and causing severe flooding whenever it rains.
