Gomoa East District held its annual budget meeting at the General Assembly at Potsin bringing together assembly members, the presiding member, and the District Chief Executive (DCE).

During the session, the focus was on reviewing and discussing the annual budget for the district. *HON. NAANA ACKOM* addressed attendees, highlighting key priorities and the importance of effective allocation of resources to support development initiatives within the district.

She said, “We used this opportunity to elect a different presiding member, and the new presiding member is Francis Adu.” She also added, “The common fund that the government brought has really helped the community. The government has asked us what we should use the money for, and it has been put to good use, including the construction of a CHPS compound, a classroom block, improved sanitation, and a borehole.”

However, she noted that the assembly members are facing challenges, particularly regarding the district’s elevation to metropolitan status. “The assembly members have been asking when the district will officially become metropolitan,” she said, adding, “We plead with the government to take urgent action on this matter.”

She also expressed gratitude, saying, “We thank the government for fulfilling its promises about the 24-hour economy market.”

Following her remarks, the newly elected presiding member, Francis Adu, spoke about other issues affecting the district. He highlighted concerns about government support for motorbikes, stating, “Past governments claim to have provided motorbikes, but the moto bikes were not strong enough , as the poor road network made it difficult to use them effectively.”

He further suggested that it would be beneficial if assembly members were provided with motorbikes to carry out their official duties more efficiently. “We plead with the government to consider giving assembly members motorbikes to help them do their runs effectively,” he said.

The meeting provided assembly members with the opportunity to engage in discussions, raise concerns, and offer suggestions to ensure that the budget meets the needs of the local communities.

The annual budget meeting underscores the district’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and collaborative governance, ensuring that development plans are aligned with the expectations of the people of Gomoa East.
