A tragic incident has occurred at Gomoa Jukwa in the Gomoa Central District of the Central Region after a collapsed building claimed the life of a 6-year-old girl during a heavy downpour.

 

According to reports, the unfortunate incident happened when part of an old and weakened building suddenly gave way following hours of heavy rainfall, trapping the young girl beneath the debris.

 

Residents who rushed to the scene made frantic efforts to rescue the child, but she was sadly pronounced dead shortly after she was pulled from the rubble.

 

Eyewitnesses disclosed that the building had developed visible cracks for some time, raising safety concerns among members of the community prior to the disaster.

 

Some residents have blamed poor maintenance culture and weak structural conditions of old buildings for the unfortunate incident, calling on authorities to take urgent action to prevent similar tragedies.

 

The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the morgue, while police have commenced investigations into the incident.

 

Meanwhile, residents are appealing to the Gomoa Central District Assembly and other relevant authorities to inspect dilapidated and weak buildings within the community to help avert future occurrences.
