The Deputy Organizer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Tain Constituency of the Bono Region, Hon. Francis Obeng, has disclosed that the “Thank You Tour” conducted by the National Chairman of the NDC, Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, is not intended to declare his candidacy for the NDC flagbearership. Instead, it serves to fulfill promises made during the 2024 campaign period.
Hon. Francis Obeng asserted that the National Chairman, Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, had pledged during his visits in the 2024 campaign season to return and express his gratitude should the electorate embrace the NDC’s ideologies and entrust them with the mandate to govern the nation.
Following the NDC’s victory, he considers it essential to honor his promise by visiting all the areas where he campaigned to convey his appreciation to the voters for their support for the NDC. He emphasized that this tour is not related to any presidential ambitions, as Asiedu Nketia could not have anticipated the election outcome when he made that promise.
The Deputy organizer underscored that Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nketia has not made any public statement or expressed any intention to run for the position of flagbearer. He emphasized that the NDC government is only one and half years into its tenure, making discussions about the future flagbearer premature.
He said although Asiedu Nketia has not declared his candidacy for flagbearership, Obeng Francis expressed his intention to support the National Chairman’s bid for the flagbearer position once the administration of John Dramani Mahama concludes.
He further stated that Asiedu Nketia enjoys substantial support from various factions within the party and so when the appropriate time arrives, He, Obeng Francis intends to endorse him to lead the NDC in securing electoral victory, asserting that no one can successfully challenge and defeat Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nketia in the flagbearer race.
