The Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested a woman, Mahama Aminat, also known as Akosua Serwaa Minat, for allegedly issuing death threats against President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama in a series of viral social media videos.
In a statement on Thursday, May 21, 2026, the Police said Aminat appeared in several TikTok videos that have circulated widely online, where she is alleged to have made derogatory remarks about the President and issued threats against him and the First Lady. Some of the statements were also described as inciteful, allegedly encouraging others to cause harm.
The videos first surfaced on Tuesday, May 19, prompting a joint investigation by CVET and the National Operations Department’s Surveillance Unit. Aminat was arrested on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, in Sekyere Zongo, Sekyere Kumawu District.
She remains in police custody, assisting with investigations, and is expected to be arraigned in court in the coming days.
