NANA ANSAH’S REPORT
Two people and a three-month-old baby have died following a fatal accident between Gomoa Akoti Junction and Buduatta Junction on the Winneba-Kasoa Highway in the Central Region.
The crash involved three vehicles: a private car with registration number DV 9546, a fuel tanker with registration number GN 4328-15, and a tipper truck with registration number GT 9026-26.
Reports indicate that the private car was traveling from Winneba towards Kasoa when a pickup vehicle attempted a wrongful overtaking maneuver. This caused the private car’s driver to lose control and collide head-on with the fuel tanker coming from the opposite direction.
Eyewitnesses said the tanker driver applied emergency brakes, but the tipper truck following closely behind crashed into the tanker from the rear.
According to eyewitnesses who spoke with Nana Ansah, the driver of the private car and a female passenger died instantly at the scene, while the three-month-old baby, who was critically injured, later succumbed to injuries at St. Gregory Hospital.
The driver of the private car was reportedly trapped in the wreckage and died on the spot. Meanwhile, the driver of the pickup vehicle allegedly responsible for causing the accident reportedly fled the scene immediately after the crash.
Police officers are at the scene managing traffic and investigating the incident.
