The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has revoked the mining leases for Akango, Salman, and Nkroful owned by Adamus Resources Limited due to violations of Ghana’s minerals and mining laws. This action follows a report from the Minerals Commission, which revealed that Adamus Resources had engaged in unauthorized mining activities, breaching the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703), and associated regulations.
The directive, issued in a statement by the Ministry on Sunday, April 26, 2026, confirmed that Adamus Resources had violated several key legal provisions. The Ministry also assured that steps would be taken to protect the jobs and livelihoods of affected workers, with further announcements regarding compensation measures to come.
Key Violations Identified:
Adamus Resources unlawfully subcontracted mining operations on their concessions without obtaining the required ministerial consent under section 14 of Act 703.
Mining activities were carried out without approved operating plans or valid permits, as mandated by Regulation 8(1) of the Minerals and Mining (Health, Safety and Technical) Regulations, 2012 (LI 2182).
The company failed to obtain necessary approvals from regulatory bodies, including the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as required under section 18 of Act 703.
Foreign nationals, including Chinese nationals, were unlawfully employed in mining activities, contrary to section 99(5)(a) and (b) of the Minerals and Mining (Amendment) Act, 2019 (Act 995).
Mining operations were substandard, conducted outside designated mining areas, and away from approved mine infrastructure.
The illegal activities caused significant environmental damage, including land degradation, harm to ecosystems, and risks to water bodies, public health, and local communities.
The government has reiterated its commitment to protecting Ghana’s natural resources and will continue to take firm actions against illegal mining activities across the country.
