The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has seized 40 vehicles at the Tema Harbour after uncovering fraudulent Drive from Port (DP) stickers. The operation, carried out on April 17, 2026, revealed both fake DP stickers and the misuse of legitimate ones on vehicles with mismatched documentation, raising alarms about potential fraud in the vehicle importation and registration process.

Initial investigations suggest that the affected vehicles were imported by CFAO, but an agent handling the clearance for the company allegedly employed illegal tactics, resulting in the discrepancies identified. The introduction of DP stickers was part of a wider reform aimed at reducing revenue leakages from the former aluminium DP plates.

Following the reform, the number of DP stickers issued rose from an average of 2,000 per month to around 15,000 in October 2025. However, a recent dip in issuance volumes at the ports prompted further scrutiny, leading to the recent operation.

The DVLA is collaborating with National Security to investigate the issue and enhance enforcement measures against fraudulent activities. The Authority emphasized the importance of accurate vehicle data, as it is crucial for road safety, improving traceability, and supporting effective transport policy decisions.

DVLA has urged all vehicle importers and stakeholders to adhere strictly to the established procedures and ensure due diligence in their operations, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining the integrity of Ghana’s vehicle administration system.
