The Ghana Education Service (GES) has received more than 40,000 applications for just 7,000 available teaching positions following the closure of its recruitment portal.

The overwhelming number of applicants highlights the high demand for employment opportunities within the education sector in Ghana.

According to officials, the recruitment exercise attracted graduates from various teacher training institutions and universities across the country, all seeking placement within the public school system.

The disparity between the number of applicants and available slots underscores the competitive nature of the process, with thousands expected to miss out on the opportunity.

GES is expected to begin the next phase of the recruitment process, which includes screening and verification of applicants’ credentials before final selections are made.

Education analysts say the situation reflects broader challenges in the job market, urging policymakers to expand employment opportunities and invest more in the education sector.

Successful applicants will be deployed to schools across the country to help address staffing gaps and improve teaching and learning outcomes.
