President John Dramani Mahama has called for an emergency cabinet meeting to address the sharp increase in fuel prices, a direct consequence of the ongoing conflict in Iran and the broader Middle East.
In his keynote address on the second day of the Kwahu Business Forum on Saturday, April 4, 2026, President Mahama explained that the purpose of the meeting is to explore practical measures that can help ease the burden of rising fuel costs on Ghanaians.
“I have called for this emergency cabinet meeting to discuss specific steps we can take to cushion petroleum prices while we hope for an end to the conflict. There are adjustments we can make, particularly in the margins, to help keep prices relatively stable as we pray for peace,” he stated.
The President reassured the public that the government remains committed to alleviating the financial strain on citizens, adding that the cabinet will assess the components contributing to fuel price hikes and explore possible interventions for relief.
Furthermore, President Mahama assured the nation that measures have been put in place to build a resilient economy capable of withstanding external challenges like the ongoing Middle East conflict.
“I can confidently assure you that the economy will not collapse because of the war in Iran,” he emphasized.
