“I will hold you MCEs and DCEs responsible if ‘Nkoko Nketenkete’ fails in your area,” – Eastern Regional Minister.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, has warned Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) that they will be held responsible if the government’s “Nkoko Nketenkete” poultry initiative fails in their regions.

Speaking at a ceremony at the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council, the Minister emphasized the importance of the poultry sub-sector in Ghana’s agriculture, noting its potential to reduce reliance on poultry imports, create jobs, and boost food security.

She referred to a Ministry of Food and Agriculture report revealing that Ghana consumes 400,000 metric tonnes of poultry annually but produces only 15,000 metric tonnes, leading to the country spending $400 million annually on imports.

The “Nkoko Nketenkete” initiative, launched by the President as part of his Resetting Agenda, aims to empower local farmers, youth, and agripreneurs to improve poultry production and reduce imports, thus protecting foreign exchange.

The Minister urged beneficiaries to maintain high standards in biosecurity, housing, and feeding to ensure the long-term success of the project.
