President John Dramani Mahama delivered a heartfelt address to citizens and dignitaries at the Jubilee House on March 6 as Ghana celebrated its 69th Independence Day.
The ceremony brought together former presidents, government officials, diplomats, traditional leaders, security personnel, schoolchildren, and youth to commemorate Ghana’s independence from United Kingdom colonial rule in 1957.
“This is our story. This is our moment. We cannot speak of Ghana’s present without paying homage to our past,” President Mahama said during the address.
He paid tribute to Ghana’s first President, Kwame Nkrumah, acknowledging his role in leading the country to independence. The President also recognized the contributions of past leaders and administrations in shaping Ghana’s democracy and strengthening its institutions.
President Mahama highlighted efforts by his administration over the past year to stabilize the economy, restore investor confidence, and reinforce fiscal discipline.
As part of new policy initiatives, the President announced that he has assented to the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill, a policy designed to allow businesses and factories to operate in multiple shifts. According to him, the initiative is expected to create about 1,000 new jobs across sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, security, and transportation.
The President further disclosed that the government is in the final stages of establishing a Women’s Development Bank, aimed at providing financial support and accessible funding to women-led businesses across the country.
He urged Ghanaians to uphold the values of discipline, integrity, and patriotism, stressing that national development depends on the collective efforts of all citizens.
