Dormaa Central NHIA initiates Campus Connect to register all students onto the NHIS – NHIA Manager

The Dormaa Central Municipal Manager of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Hon. Eric Yeboah Kyeremeh, has announced the Authority’s plans in Dormaa Central to implement an initiative called “Campus Connect” to visit all secondary institutions within the Municipality to register all students with the National Health Insurance Scheme. The objective is to expand the Scheme’s coverage and facilitate universal health coverage.

During an HIV sensitization program at Aboabo No.1, Hon. Eric Yeboah Kyeremeh emphasized the importance of health, stating that a healthy individual is a prosperous one. Therefore, it is essential to ensure universal healthcare for everyone in the country, regardless of their financial status. He mentioned that the National Health Insurance Scheme is functioning effectively and encouraged those not yet registered to promptly visit a nearby office to enroll and benefit from free healthcare services.

Furthermore, he disclosed that his team has initiated the “Campus Connect” program to visit all secondary institutions and register unregistered students with the Scheme. He emphasized that basic schools would eventually benefit from this initiative, ensuring that all students are insured and supported when they seek healthcare services at health centers.

Hon. Eric Yeboah Kyeremeh highlighted that the primary challenge facing the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) pertains to co-payment, which the authority is striving to eliminate in order to restore the trust of Ghanaians in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

He stated that the co-payment issue arose due to delays in the payment of claims to healthcare providers under the previous administrations. The current NHIA CEO, Dr. Bampoe, is making efforts to ensure timely payment of claims in order to address the co-payment concerns, resulting in the payment of claims for the months of December and January.

Furthermore, he mentioned that the Dormaa Central NHIA has successfully recovered GH¢15,000 for NHIS cardholders who were incorrectly charged by healthcare providers for services rendered. He emphasized that the Health Insurance is actively functioning, and therefore, everyone should register and report any unlawful charges by healthcare providers to the authority’s office for resolution.
