President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has praised the formal approval of the Standard Player Contract, describing it as a transformative step toward professionalism and player welfare in Ghanaian football.
Speaking during the 31st GFA Ordinary Congress held in Prampram on Tuesday, August 12, Okraku said the new contract framework will raise the standards of the domestic game and ensure greater fairness between clubs and players.
“It is with a deep sense of responsibility that I announce the formal approval of the GFA Standard Player Contract, which will come into effect from the 2025/26 football season,” he stated. “This is the best gift to the Ghanaian game.”
The Standard Player Contract is aimed at providing uniform contractual terms, setting minimum standards, and ensuring that player agreements are honored across the board. It is expected to reduce legal disputes, promote transparency, and improve overall player welfare.
The GFA confirmed that the contract will be fully implemented in the Ghana Premier League, the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League, and the Access Bank Division One League.
Okraku credited the milestone to years of collaboration between the GFA, the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), and other key stakeholders, saying it reflects a shared commitment to reform and progress in Ghanaian football.
