John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed skepticism about the value of signing a peace pact, given the unresolved violence that occurred during the 2020 general elections. Speaking at a media engagement in the Volta Region on August 15, Mahama pointed out that eight NDC members were killed in the violence, and no action has been taken or compensation provided.

Although the party has not yet reached a decision on whether to sign the peace declaration, Mahama empathized with NDC’s National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia’s stance against it. “I understand the concerns raised by our national chairman regarding justice,” Mahama said. “We should not glorify the peace pact when our members were gunned down and no redress has been given. What is the purpose of the peace pact under such circumstances?”

Johnson Asiedu Nketia had previously criticized peace declarations, stating that they have failed to produce tangible results in the past. The National Peace Council has acknowledged the concerns raised by the NDC.
