John Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has proposed a solution to address unemployment among healthcare workers, particularly nurses, by suggesting their deployment to foreign countries.
Mahama argues that sending nurses abroad would be a more beneficial approach than allowing them to remain unemployed in Ghana. During his visit to the Savannah Region, he emphasized the importance of creating employment opportunities for nurses after completing their education.
To implement this plan, he recommends establishing a specialized unit within the Ministry of Employment responsible for recruiting qualified nurses for overseas deployment. If elected, Mahama pledges to significantly reduce unemployment rates.
“We aim to boost the production of health workers and nurses, employing as many as possible locally, while also entering agreements with other countries to deploy our nurses on fixed contracts,” Mahama stated, highlighting the need for a dedicated unit within the Ministry of Employment to facilitate this process.
