REECE JAMES, who does not feel physically ready, gambled on his berth at the Euros by skipping his England assignment.

After his most recent hamstring injury, Chelsea captain Gareth Southgate was hoping to be called up.

On Monday, Reece James got the start for Chelsea against Tottenham.

On Thursday, Gareth Southgate made his team announcement.

However, 23-year-old James clarified that he wished to miss this one in order to continue his recuperation.

The England manager stated: “I had hoped to call Reece up.”

“He feels that he is not quite ready. I recognize that.

He had to recover gradually from several injuries.

He is therefore a little cautious in that regard, but I can see why.

“The concern is that there is a lot of competition at full-back. The Euros are just one squad away for him.

He is aware of that. We have faith in his abilities.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is listed as a midfielder in Southgate’s most recent team for this month’s Euro qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia, leaving Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier as the two right-backs.

Tino Livramento, a 20-year-old Toon whizkid, was mentioned by Southgate as someone who attracted attention.

Raheem Sterling missed his third straight camp after deciding to focus on his fitness rather than join the team in June.
