The vetting of all 75 individuals aspiring to become parliamentary candidates for the National Democratic Party (NDC) in the Volta Region was successfully completed with none disqualified, said Mr James Gunu, Regional Secretary of the NDC, adding that 15 women were among the aspirants, and the vetting was segmented in the Region and held at Hohoe, Ho, and Dzodze, which had a “positive impact on the Region.”
Aspirants undertook an MoU on the outcome of the contest committing to address grievances appropriately and ensuring an issue-based campaign that would be clean of abuse, and acrimony that would bring diversity into the Party.
Mr Gunu noted that aspirants also committed to staying true to the ideals of the Party and not to contest as independent candidates nor campaign against the elect.
The Regional Secretary said that the vetting revived enthusiasm among the Party members in the Region, which would carry them into the 2024 general elections, adding that the crop of aspirants continued to grow in quality and asked that they consider other positions, including local assembly membership to complement the nation’s governance.
All MPs from the Region are facing reelection, except Mr Benjamin Kpodo, MP for Ho Central, and Mr James Klutse Avedzi, the representative of Ketu North, who did not contest, and whose Seats have the most contenders – seven, and eight respectively.
Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Mr Charles Agbeve of North Tongu and Agortime Ziope, respectively, are in the contest unopposed, while the parliamentary primaries will come off on May 13 in all constituencies.
