A 42-year-old man, Elyasu Kunateh, has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in hard labour by the Wa High Court for defiling a seven-year-old boy in the Upper West Region.
Kunateh was convicted on Thursday, July 23, 2026, after a full trial, following his arrest in January 2026 after the victim’s mother reported the incident to the police.
The Upper West Regional Police Command said the victim was referred to a medical facility for examination and received psychosocial support after the complaint was lodged.
The Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting vulnerable persons and urged parents, guardians, and the public to remain vigilant and report suspected cases of child abuse and sexual and gender-based violence.
